After steering you to the stargazing class at Pepperwood Preserve, another outing under the night sky has cropped up.
On Oct. 10 you can take a guided moonlight hike of the Montini Open Space Preserve in Sonoma. Caitlin Cornwall. a biologist with the Sonoma Ecology Center, will lead you an on intermediate to advanced level hike under a full Harvest Moon from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Catch it at just the right time of evening on the right day and you’ll gasp at the sight of a massive orange orb hanging low over Sonoma. If you’re so lucky, you instantly know why Sonoma Valley is called The Valley of the Moon.
No promises that Luna will deliver a big show for the hike but it still should be beautiful on this hillside just above the town.
Cornwall will discuss the rich natural and cultural history of the former ranch that has long served as a scenic backdrop to Sonoma.
Sign up for the walk by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10. Call Jessica Glatt at 996-0712, ext. 110 or email jessica@sonomaecologycenter.org.
