The Mendocino Coast is only a couple of hours away but feels like another world. And it’s rolling out the welcome mat to entice the getaway crowd to flee the Big Box stores during the first two weeks of December.
Through Dec. 14, many coastal inns and hotels are offering two-for-one overnight deals or price breaks of up to 50 percent. Shops are offering deals of 10 to 20 percent off regular price and a number of winery tasting rooms are offering discounts of 15 to 30 percent. Participating restaurants are offering free appetizers with the purchase of an entree or 10 percent off menu items, excluding alcohol.
The special deals coincide with a string of holiday events to keep you entertained.
The Candelight Inn Tour Dec. 8 to 11 is a chance to visit a host of atmospheric inns done up for Christmas and offering food, music and merriment. The progressive celebration features a different community each night. Cost is $25, $10 for youth. (mendocinotour.com or 964-1228.)
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is illuminated into a Winter Wonderland during the Festival of Lights Dec. 2-11. Tens of thousands of twinkling lights are strung in the trees while the beds beneath bloom with “flowers of lights.” Nightly from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. $5, $10 Fridays and Saturdays. Kids under 16 are free.
